About this tool

To simplify a ratio, divide every part by their greatest common divisor: 12:18 becomes 2:3. Decimals are scaled to whole numbers first, so 1.5:4.5 becomes 1:3.

To split a total, add the parts together and give each person their part divided by the sum, times the total. For example 500 split 2:3 gives 200 and 300.
