About this tool
To add or subtract fractions, they are brought to a common denominator: a/b + c/d = (ad + bc) ÷ bd. To multiply, multiply the tops and the bottoms. To divide, multiply by the reciprocal of the second fraction. The result is then reduced by dividing the top and bottom by their greatest common divisor.
Use whole numbers for the numerators and denominators; a whole number such as 3 can be written as 3/1. A denominator can never be 0. Very large numbers are refused because they cannot be calculated exactly.
